Researchers from CNR-ITD have contributed to the success of the Futures4Europe Conference 2026, “Daring to Imagine Otherwise”, held in Rome 30 Sept-1 Oct. The event was part of the European Eye of Europe project hosted by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).

CNR-ITD’s Valeria Piras and Stefania Bocconi, together with Conor Galvin from University College Dublin (UCD), gave a presentation titled “From Futures Thinking to Youth Agency”. This centred on a CNR-ITD designed learning pathway developed for UCD, a partner in the Erasmus+ EU Immersive project.
The pathway is intended to engage higher-education students and young professionals in a ‘backcasting’ exercise. The aim here is to challenge deterministic views of innovation and competitiveness, exploring how European values can help shape desirable technological futures.
In addition, Nik Baerten of Pantopicon joined Piras and Bocconi in running “The Future is Not Neutral”. This hands-on workshop uses the InspAIr toolkit developed by CNR-ITD and Pantopicon as part of the PNRR RAISE project. Through futures thinking and speculative design, the workshop invited participants to question the non-neutrality of technology and imagine possible alternatives
