CNR-ITD’s Stefania Manca has just had a new article published on the topic of modern-day Holocaust distortion in Italy. It’s titled “Countering Holocaust Distortion in Italy: Education in the Age of Social Media and AI”.
The article examines Holocaust distortion in Italy, exploring how unresolved memories of fascism, contemporary antisemitism, social media, and public discourse intersect in the ways Holocaust memory is mobilised, reframed, and sometimes misused.
There’s a special focus on education and the need to combine historical knowledge with media and digital literacy. The paper also discusses the potential and limitations of AI-assisted approaches to analysing online Holocaust distortion. It advocates methods that integrate computational tools with historical contextualisation and qualitative interpretation.
The article appears in the recently launched journal Digital Hate Review. You can read it here.
