The article "Promoting News Literacy with epistemological beliefs, IFLA checklist and AI: Insights from a teacher training program in Italy", by Flavio Manganello (CNR-ITD), has been published in the Journal of Media Literacy Education.
The study examines a training program involving 70 Italian teachers, integrating epistemological beliefs, the IFLA checklist for news credibility evaluation, and the News Verifier, a GPT-4-based tool. Findings show that the checklist promotes classification consistency regardless of epistemological profile, while human-AI alignment varies considerably depending on the news category. The study highlights the potential of AI tools as complementary resources in news literacy education, while pointing to the need for progressive calibration against human reasoning.
