Role: Former Staff Member
ITD office: Genoa
Ferraris Maria

I have a degree in Mathematics and I have been working as a researcher at the Istituto Tecnologie Didattiche of the Italian National Research Council since 1974. My activity at the Institute has concerned various fields of educational and training technologies theory and application, such as Computer Assisted Instruction, Instructional Design, Computers in Compulsory Education, Information Technology in Language Education, Distance Education.
The major feature of my work is an attempt to combine theoretical studies in these fields with application-oriented aspects through the development of courses and instructional software prototypes to be used in "real" contexts.
For the last ten years I have been focusing my attention on the application of information technology to language education. In this field I have been developing methodologies and courseware (Word Prof ) for the use of computers in the development of “mature” writing skills; and I was in charge, as scientific manager, of the production of the electronic version of a new dictionary of the Italian language (DISC-Compact, Giunti editore, Firenze, 1997).

My present research interests focus on two areas: the design of learning spaces mainly for teachers' training (see LabTD project) and the use of the web as a learning environment for exploring and fostering key competencies which underpin the information problem solving process
