Study of learning processes in the context of web-based formative actions

This project seeks to build a network of research units with a view to creating a national centre of excellence in:

  • the use of integrated web learning systems as a means of providing lifelong and flexible education;
  • the study of correlations between economical change and education systems.

This project starts by examining of the complex issues surrounding learning systems (lifelong learning) within the knowledge society. Attention is focused on crucial aspects which can obstruct communication and interfacing between different systems, with the purpose of initiating concrete actions that promote flexible, integrated, and comprehensively significant experiences of permanent education.

Through single units of research dedicated to specific fields, the project seeks to offer specific cognitive contributions and concrete achievements, with special attention to the possible interdependencies between the economic context and learning systems. This will lead to with the production of technologies and methodologies capable of promoting the integration of vocational education, the university system, scientific and technological research, training for trainers and teachers, education in/for SMEs.

A particularly significant role is played by web based learning technologies, considered as integrated systems for the recognition of competencies. Therse environments are capable of producing forms of co-operative knowledge construction, of providing virtual laboratories or, at the strictly communicative level, of generating search languages that optimize information comprehension.

The areas likely to benefit from this activity are university teaching, technical education and training, regional web learning systems, teacher training institutions, and vocational education systems.
