The study will explore the most common forms of implicit antisemitism and new antisemitism, which refer to attitudes or stereotypes that unconsciously influence understanding, actions and decisions in relation to Jewish and Israeli people. This comprehensive study, which will be conducted through research and knowledge exchange with experts in the field, will be suitable to lay the groundwork for future social media campaigns targeted at young people.
AIMS
The aim of this project is to produce a conceptual study that can form the basis of social media campaigns aimed at young people (e.g. on TikTok) to counter antisemitism. The main output of the project will be a publication available in three languages: English, Italian and Hungarian. It will be disseminated to the academic and practitioner community, including social media activists, NGOs, associations, Holocaust museums and memorials, etc. through institutional websites, mailing lists and social media profiles. The results of the project can be used by NGOs and educational institutions to teach about antisemitism and social media activism. They could also be used by organisations to create positive campaigns to combat online antisemitism.
METHODOLOGIES AND INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUES
The project will begin with a literature review to assess these specific forms and the research gaps in the study of antisemitic stereotypes, both of which are difficult to identify. The literature review will focus on strategies used to counter antisemitism and on communication work in the social media space. Following the literature review, a series of micro-studies will be conducted focusing on potential content and methods that would be most effective for a social media campaign. This content will be aligned with pedagogical principles such as holistic and multi-level education and technology-enhanced learning to guide future developments.
