Project description and objectives

The TEAMCARE project (Programme: Erasmus+; Key Action: Partnerships for cooperation and exchanges of practices; Action: Alliances for Education and Enterprises) aims to enhance the responsiveness of the Social and Healthcare (SHC) systems to current societal challenges, focusing on bridging a specific gap between the skills currently characterizing SHC professionals working in multiprofessional teams and those actually required by the public sector to transition to resilient and sustainable systems centered on community-based services, such as transversal, soft, and digital skills.

The project’s primary expected outcome will be a European-standard Curriculum designed to train “Specialists in Community Based Interprofessional TEAMs for person-centered care”, based on an Integrated Competence Framework and provided with Guidelines for implementation in different countries. The curriculum will be multidisciplinary, interprofessional, based on the main EU professional training and education standards, and will support micro-credentials (microcredential). The Curriculum is aimed at key professionals who may be involved in these interdisciplinary teams, such as general practitioners, geriatricians, psychologists, physiotherapists, other rehabilitation therapists, but also social workers, and aims to train them not in their discipline, but in the new cross-sectoral competencies (soft, digital, and future skills) necessary to work in these teams, also with the support of technology.

The Curriculum will be tested through 4 pilot specialization courses organized by 4 university partners of the project in 4 different European countries (IT, GR, PL, IR), thus testing the curriculum’s flexibility. An Integrated Platform will also be released to support the formal and informal learning of SHC professionals, as well as free access training materials. Recommendations and a Roadmap will be provided for Decision Makers, and a scalability strategy will be implemented. The Alliance involves 12 full partners from 6 EU countries (Ireland, Italy, Greece, Poland, Belgium, Austria). Various EU stakeholders will benefit from the project: SHC professionals, Universities and Higher Education Institutions, private and public social and health institutions, policy makers, and end-users of the services.

Methodologies and Investigative Techniques

The TEAMCARE project’s approach is predicated on achieving two primary outcomes (the EU Curriculum and corresponding Guidelines) by the end of the first year, followed by the implementation of 4 pilots in 4 different countries to test and refine the results.

The project employs EU tools such as ECTS, EQF, ESCO, and EQAVET to enhance the sustainability, transparency, and transferability of results.

Two methodological pillars will guide the project:

  1. An innovative model for training in the socio-health sector, benefiting patients with a four-phase approach;
  2. The Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework, applied for the design and implementation of courses, and to support ongoing training and sharing of practices post-project. The transversal competencies required for a CoI will be identified and integrated.
