Framework
With the higher education market becoming ever more competitive, there is a clear need for ranking mechanisms that help people make informed choices about which university to attend and what course to follow.
While a number of ranking systems already exist for traditional on-campus higher education, none of these covers online universities.
The CODUR project is addressing this gap by formulating a set of criteria and indicators suitable for evaluating online universities. Ultimately, it may also prove possible to integrate these indicators into existing ranking systems.
Objectives
CODUR aims to generate:
- a set of European-defined quality assurance criteria and indicators for evaluating online universities;
- guidelines for integrating the resulting online education metrics into existing ranking systems, thus contribution to the development of multidimensional ranking;
- a set of operational tools for data collection.
Major Activities
The main project activities are to:
- perform a literature review investigating existing efforts to rank online higher education;
- produce a set of ranking indicators;
- conduct stakeholder validation of those indicators.
