The Presente Digitale project is creating an online platform providing free training opportunities for teachers in Italy on the subject of the digital world. The platform will also offer teaching units for classroom use, as well as supplementary study materials for both teachers and students. The training programme will be aligned with provisions for officially-recognised compulsory teacher training in Italy.

Currently, numerous online courses for teachers focus on how to employ digital technologies for educational purposes, but few address internet culture and the digital world in more general terms. Hence the core strength of Presente Digitale will be its focus on these themes in response to the needs of schools and society at large. Topics to be covered include the history and functioning of the web, digital identity, social networking, intellectual property rights, digital communication, digital marketing, Big Data and the Internet of Things, teaching and learning with the Internet, computational thinking, and digital safety.

These topics will be addressed in a set of training courses that comprise video lectures, webinars, online exercises and activities, as well as opportunities for individual study. Each course will require about 25 hours of participants’ time to complete. The courses will be prepared and run by CNR researchers together with nationally-recognised experts, thus guaranteeing quality and reliability.

Teachers can follow the courses in a free and open fashion with no time constraints, or they can opt to participate in scheduled runs that feature online support from course tutors and a final assessment test leading to recognised training credits.
